About Us
In 1967 I was in the Utah State Senate. While there, I personally wrote and sponsored the first legislation concerning the regulation of air pollution for the state entitled ‘Utah Clean Air Act’. That event got me interesting in matters involving cleaning up the environment. In 1978 I started a company that was devoted to convert vehicles to propane or compressed natural gas. Over the next few years, our company supplied equipment and converted over 300 vehicles to operate on natural gas. During that time I supplied and installed some of the first compressed natural gas refueling stations in Utah. I disbanded that business in 1984 because I felt that there was too much liability exposure to converting a vehicle to carry a highly flammable fuel at 3600 Pounds per Square Inch. We took the technology that we had developed to run engines on natural gas and started converting stationary gasoline engines to electric generators running on natural gas. Our company did this for over 20 years. In 2007 I saw a movie called ‘Who Killed the Electric Car’. The movie disturbed me a great deal. To learn the lengths that General Motors had gone to deprive the average American from being able to drive on an inexpensive, non-polluting fuel made me determined to go on a crusade. I enlisted the help of my talented grandson, Spencer Stromberg as a partner and The Electric Car Company was born. Our mission is to train or assist anyone who is interested in building cars that will run on electricity. There were many challenges in building an affordable, dependable EV. Through experiences gained in actually converting cars to EV’s we have learned how to surmount many of these challenges and at the same time cut the costs of an installation. Now we want to pass our solutions on to the mechanics out there who want to have the pleasure of driving an affordable, non-polluting, efficient, electric vehicle. Please give us an opportunity to help you. Getting off oil, most of which our Country buys from foreign governments that are not especially friendly to our democracy, is a worthy cause!! Carl R.
